FEB 2025 READS… yes I know it is almost a month late…

The Inmate by Frieda McFadden

RATING: 3/5

If any of you have read my blog before, you are well aware that I am a sucker for any book Frieda writes. I usually listen to her books on Spotify when I have longer drives, but Costco had a good deal on it so I couldn’t pass it up.

Brooke Sullivan starts a new job that she is not excited about but needed somewhere to start over. She is a nurse practitioner at a high security prison. This was NOT her first choice for a job in the town she moved back to, but it was the only job that replied to her application.

As time goes on, she thinks she is starting to like the job and feels good about her decision. Until she realizes this is the same prison her ex-boyfriend was sent to after SHE put him there. Her only hope is that she will never have to see him.

Obviously this does not happen because what would be a point of a thriller without some suspense and thrill.

Per usual, Frieda fooled me with what I thought would be the ending… if you like the ease of Frieda’s books like I, I would recommend giving this one a read.

The Arrangement by Kiersten Modglin

RATING: 3/5

This one took me a minute to get into. It was a little slow at first and painful to get through lol.

It begins as a story about a husband and wife who are going through struggles in their marriage. The wife, Ainsley, suggest they use a dating app to see other people in hopes to find a way to rekindle their love (yes, I agree it is very odd).

Well they both go on dates, but it all doesn’t go as planned because Peter’s true colors start to come out…

Hard for me to explain further without giving anything away ;)

Society of Lies by Lauren Ling Brown

RATING: 3.5/5

I listened to this one on my drives. As usual, it is a thriller. I chose it because it was Reese’s Book Club pick of the month. I will admit that it caught my attention quite easily, but I had to speed it up because it felt like it took too long.

Maya’s little sister, Naomi, is attending the same college she did along with being in the same society. Maya thought her college years were all she imagined them to be, but there were frequent times where she questioned things that were happening. She became nervous about her sister’s college experience. Her fears come to life when she recieves the news that her younger sister is dead. They said it was an accident… but was it really?

One of Maya’s friends in college disappeared one night and was found dead the same was Naomi was. Coincident?? I think not.

The novel toggles between present day and past. Truth slowly becomes evident and people Maya thought see could trust, ones she has been trusting for 20 years, show their true colors of evil.
