JAN 2025 READS

The Christmas Fix by Lucy Score

Genre(s): Romance Novel, Contemporary Romance, Holiday Fiction, Christmas Story

Rating: 3.5/5

I read the Knockemout Series by Lucy and couldn’t get enough of them. I was very excited for this since I read one of her series as well as seeing good things about it on social media.

It wasn’t a horrible read, just VERY predictable.

I usually am not a huge fan of books based on holidays, but again, gave this a try because of my great experience with Lucy Score before.

The storyline is cute and sweet. It is hard not to fall in love with the main characters (typical romance, am I right?). It is based on a reality home improvement show and the lead is a woman named Cat whom is the definition of women empowerment. She does it all and ON HER OWN!! (we love a queen like that). Cat is trying to help her friends fix their town after a flood went through. Everyone is for this plan, besides the super hot mayor, Noah.

I am sure you are able to figure out the rest… or you just read the book ;)

The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller

Rating: 5/5

OMG OMG OMG

This was so damn good. I literally finished it in a day and a half. I couldn’t put it down.

As you may know, thrillers are my favorite genre so I am a little partial to this one.

Casey decides to take a break from fame and live in the big city and lives at her family’s lake place for a few months. She is a “recovering” alcoholic…. well one that isn’t trying much. Casey lost her husband not long ago. He was her rock and all she knew. While Casey is staying at the lake, she notices the house across the lake becomes suspicious. The couple that lives there seems to be up at random times as well as constantly arguing.

Casey met the wife, Katherine Royce, a few days before she noticed the strangeness in their house. Kathrine was drowning and Casey befriended her.

As time goes on, Casey decides to investigate and learn more about this sus house… as she tries to solve the house across the lake mystery, there are a few secrets that come to light she NEVER thought would resurface.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Genre(s): YA literature, psychological thriller

Rating: 3.5/5

I got this book series from my co worker for Christmas. I did not hear of them before but she noted they are very popular.

I thought this book was very interesting. I liked the way the author wrote it to give a should have known twist at the end of the novel.

I did feel like it was a bit repetitive, but still enjoyed it.

The Sinclair family is a very close knit family who keeps all their secrets close. No one in the family can show any sign of weakness… which is why Cadence may be causing some problems regarding this. The Sinclair family has their own island that they live on every summer. As mentioned before, they like to keep their secrets close and give the appearance of a perfect family.

Cadence is a teen who is very close with her cousins. She was in a terrible accident a the summer previously to the one the book is at in present tense. She turned to her cousins for help remembering what happened and why everyone in their family has been acting weird around her and about the accident. Throughout the novel, many memories from that summer come to life and she realizes what truly happened.

Though it was a bit of a longer read fro me d/t lack of interest for a bit, I would recommend just because of how wild the ending is!!
